Li Guohua, former general manager of China Unicom, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for bribery and abuse of power. On May 7, according to the Supreme people's Court, the Qingdao Intermediate people's Court issued a public verdict on Li Guohua's case. Li Guohua was sentenced to 15 years in prison for accepting bribes and three years in prison for abuse of power. The court decided to concurrently execute 16 years of fixed-term imprisonment and a fine of 6 million yuan. In addition, Li Guohua's illegal income and its fruits were recovered and turned over to the state treasury. Li Guohua has been deputy director of Jiangxi Post and Telecommunications Administration since 1996 and has since been promoted, serving as deputy director of the State Post Bureau from 2005 to 2006 and general manager of China Post Group from 2011 to 2018. In July 2018, Li Guohua was transferred to director, general manager and deputy secretary of the party group of China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd. During his tenure in Jiangxi Post Bureau and State Post Bureau, Li Guohua abused his power, resulting in a loss of more than 49.96 million yuan in state-owned assets. The procuratorial organ proposed that Li Guohua should be investigated for criminal responsibility for the crime of accepting bribes and abusing his power. In the first trial, Li Guohua pleaded guilty and repented. In its verdict on May 7, 2024, the court said that Li Guohua had accepted a huge amount of bribes and had abused his power seriously and should be punished in accordance with the law. In view of Li Guohua's partial attempt to accept bribes, after arriving at the case, he truthfully confessed, took the initiative to explain some of the facts of bribery that were not yet known to the supervisory organs, actively returned the stolen goods, and had the circumstances of statutory and discretionary lighter punishment, the court decided to give him a lighter punishment in accordance with the law.
