SEOULcelebrityfamilyfeud, June 17 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of the information and communication technology (ICT) products rose for the seventh straight month, government data showed Monday.
The ICT products shipment surged 31.8 percent from a year earlier to 19.05 billion U.S. dollars in May, continuing to grow since November last year, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Semiconductor export jumped 52.4 percent to 11.39 billion dollars last month, keeping a double-digit expansion for the seventh consecutive month.
Display panel shipment expanded 15.3 percent to 1.85 billion dollars on solid demand for panels used for TVs and computers, while mobile phone export gained 10.8 percent to 1.02 billion dollars.
Shipment for computers and peripherals soared 42.5 percent to 1.18 billion dollars, but communications equipment export declined 10.7 percent to 180 million dollars.
Import for ICT products gained 2.4 percent over the year to 11.48 billion dollars in May, sending the trade surplus in the ICT industry to 7.57 billion dollars.
Import for chips, display panels and mobile phones increased in double digits last month, but computer import fell in double figures.■
