CHENGDUcryptogamesfreetostart, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in southwest China's Sichuan Province is expecting a baby boomcryptogamesfreetostart, as a number of its female giant pandas are currently pregnant.
On June 29, twin cubs were the first pandas to be born at the center's Shenshuping giant panda base in Sichuan's Wolong National Nature Reserve this year. And another pair of twins arrived at the base on Wednesday.
The center said that several pandas are still waiting to give birth. The panda birthing season starts in July and continues until September, and panda pregnancies generally last about four months.
Since overcoming the challenges of breeding giant pandas in the 1990s, the center has established the world's largest captive population of the species.■
