NEW DELHIlevvvelcomcoinmaster, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Two Indian army troopers and a civilian were killed and two others wounded in an overnight fierce gunfight in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Sunday.
The gunfight broke out Saturday evening at Ahlan Gagarmandu forest in Kokernag of Anantnag district, 90 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Yesterday, security forces observed a suspicious movement in the upper reaches of Gagarmandu, following which a gunfight erupted. In the exchange of fire between militants and government forces, three troopers were wounded, out of which later on two of them succumbed. The third one is undergoing treatment and his condition is stated to be stable," a senior police official V K Birdi told media.
"Two civilians were also wounded during the exchange of fire between the two sides and out of them later on one succumbed and the other civilian is in hospital," the official said.
Birdi said the presence of civilians in the forest at the time of the gunfight is under investigation.■
